The Magnificat Center Staff

Sister Helene Lentz, CSJ - Director – Send email  -  316-689-4011

Sister Helene is a member of the Congregation of St. Joseph. She brings a background of study and experiences in spirituality, discernment, initial formation ministry, retreat work and executive health care administrators.  In the early nineties Sister Helene served in an executive VP role during the Via Christi Health System merger where two competitive health systems in Wichita came together to create a new health system. In 2000, Sister  was elected president of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita and led her religious congregation through a four year discernment process culminating in a decision to join with six other Sister of St. Joseph congregations in forming the new Congregation of St. Joseph. In addition to spiritual direction/retreat ministry, Sister Helene currently serves as director of the Magnificat Center, directs her congregation’s associate (lay membership) program for the Wichita Center and serves as a member of the Sponsor Council for Ascension Health.

Sister Mary Ellen Loch is a member of the Congregation of St. Joseph. Sister Mary Ellen received her masters in counseling from St. Louis University and in social work from Washington University in St. Louis.  She is a licensed social worker and a certified Domestic Violence counselor.  She has a certificate in spiritual direction and spiritual formation from the Institute in Religious Formation from St. Louis University.  She has served in the ministries of spiritual formation and leadership for the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph and as a counselor for children through adults on the college level and in a shelter for abused women.   She also serves on the Peace and Justice committee for the Congregation of St. Joseph. Sister Mary Ellen is former director of the Magnificat Center for Unity and Reconciliation, and does spiritual direction and retreat work. 

Sister Marie Veronica Janousek, CSJ – Send email  -  316-689-4077

Sister Marie Veronica, a member of the Congregation of St. Joseph, converted to the Catholic faith when she began her nursing career at St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, KS.  Sister’s varied ministry careers were in the hospital setting and most recently spiritual direction. Sister is certified with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and the Association of Professional Chaplains. She was recently certified as a Spiritual Director/Companion in June of 2008 upon graduation from the three year SOULJOURNER formation program for Spiritual Directors at the Benedictine Sophia Retreat Center in Atchison, KS. Sister currently serves in acute care hospitals as a hospital chaplain and at retreat centers as a spiritual director/companion.

Nell Kaba, CSJ - Operations Manager – Send email  -  316-689-4081

Nell Kaba is an associate with the Congregation of St. Joseph. She comes with a background of 35 years of elementary teaching. She was also the director of Catholic Charities Harbor House, a domestic violence shelter in Wichita, KS, for 5 ½ years. Nell is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Magnificat Center.

Sister Joan is a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Her ministry is in retreat work and spiritual direction. Sister ministers in this capacity in Wichita and Southeast Kansas. Since 1992, she has also ministered in the men’s and women’s Cursillo in the Wichita and Salina dioceses. Sister continues to serve on TEC, Rachel’s Vineyard and Kairos teams. Sister Joan earned her Master in Spirituality from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Carol is a Recorded Quaker minister and has been a spiritual director for many years. She has worked extensively with the Spiritual Exercises with both groups and individuals. Carol is an Adjunct Faculty Member at Friends University’s Masters in Christian Ministry Program where she teaches Spiritual Formation. She is a member of Spiritual Directors International.

Sister Mary Kevin is a Sister Adorer in Wichita, KS. and has been a spiritual director and retreat leader for many years. Sister’s early beginnings were in Religious Education and her ministries have included Formation Ministry team member, and serving the Office of Worship and Spiritual Life in Oklahoma City, OK. From 1997-2000, Sister was a member of a team with the ASC International Mission among the Muslims in Tunisia at a House of Prayer. In 2000, Sister accepted a position with the International ASC Center of Spirituality in Rome, Italy serving there until 2005. Sister then returned to Wichita and resumed the ministry of spiritual direction and retreat ministry both locally and nationally.

Sister Joann holds a certification for Spiritual Direction from The Washington Theological Union, Washington, D.C. Her studies included Spirituality and Theology.

Sister has been engaged in the ministry of retreats and spiritual direction with laity, religious and clergy for many years, as a missionary in Japan and, in the United States. Sister’s previous ministry also included formation within the Congregation.

As a Sister of St. Joseph, Sister Ann has experienced 15 years of classroom teaching, fifteen years as a Principal and over thirty-five years as a Pastoral Associate. Sister holds degrees in Administration, Reading Specialist and Pastoral Care. Her pastoral work included: breaking open the Word, Bible studies, retreats, RCIA, spiritual direction, Retrouvaille, Baptism preparations, annulments and serving the sick in their homes and in nursing homes.
