Praying With Ignatius of Loyola

The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius have been integral to our understanding of Christian Spirituality and are his greatest contribution.  Presented in a structured format for prayer and reflection, the Spiritual Exercises are for anyone who wants to deepen their prayer life, feel more connected to God and share their spiritual journey with other pilgrims “on the way.”  Based on the five movements of the Spiritual Exercises, we will pray and meditate on the following:  God’s love for us, God forgives us, Jesus’ life and ministry, Jesus’ great love for us, and Jesus’ continuing love for the world.    In each of the five evenings, we will learn about the Spiritual Exercises and experience a meditation from that week’s movement.

“Sacred Fire”  A DVD presentation by Father Rohald Rohlheiser

We are incurably sexual, deeply sexed not just in our bodies but in every dimension of our being. Sexuality is a powerful fire inside of us, the best of all fires and the most dangerous of all fires. It is also a sacred fire, meant to be enjoyed as God's great gift to us even as it is guarded by chastity. This workshop will attempt to articulate both an essential anthropology and an essential spirituality of sexuality.

Rev. Ron Rolheiser, OMI, is a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate and a specialist in the fields of spirituality and systematic theology. His weekly column appears in Catholic newspapers around the world and his captivating style brings a modern approach to spirituality home to a new generation of seekers.  His best-selling books include: The Restless Heart, Forgotten Amongst the Lilies, The Shattered Lantern, The Infinite Horizon and The Holy Longing. This enriching video experience was taped before a live audience at the King's House Retreat and Renewal Center in Belleville, Illinois.

Christian Spirituality in the 21st Century

The postmodern worldview emerged during the 1960s and has come to shape all aspects of culture since, especially in First World countries. Its heightened emphasis on values of tolerance, inclusivity and community life has resonated well with some aspects of the Gospel while introducing tensions with others. This tension often shows up in Christian communities, even to the extent of catalyzing splits in major church denominations. This one-day workshop will help participants reflect on how postmodernity has influenced their own lives, and how it has helped and hindered their living of the Christian message.
